Kist keeps your household's paperwork. Here is what it keeps, who else sees it, and how to make it forget.

What Kist keeps

Mail from someone who isn't a member of your kist is dropped without being kept.

How Kist reads your papers

Kist reads text already contained in PDFs and emails on its own server. To read photos and scanned PDFs, it sends those files to Anthropic for transcription. PDFs with too little readable text on a page also use this service.

To work out what a document is and where it goes, Kist sends its text, with your drawer names and the email's subject and sender, to Anthropic, the AI provider Kist uses. Anthropic handles it under its commercial terms, which don't let it train its models on what Kist sends. Nothing else is shared with anyone, and nothing is sold or used for advertising.

Kist records which AI model was used, token counts, timing and whether a request succeeded, to measure usage and limit costs. These records contain no document text. They remain after an individual document is deleted and are removed when the whole kist is deleted.

Connected Gmail

Connecting Gmail is optional. Kist asks for read-only access: it can't send, change or delete your email. It searches for likely paperwork (bills, statements, policies, receipts and PDF attachments) and skips promotions, social mail and senders you've told it to ignore. You can pause it or remove it in Settings; removing it also withdraws Kist's access at Google.

Kist's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Making Kist forget

Keeping it safe

Only members of your kist can see its documents. Files are served only to signed-in members, and email content is shown with scripts and outside connections blocked. The database isn't reachable from the internet.
